Description
The country’s leading Latin American dance company, Ballet Hispánico has been a beacon of excellence in the United States for over 50 years. Remarkably versatile, its performers move seamlessly across a wide range of styles without compromising their integrity. CARMEN.maquia breathes new life into the iconic heroine of Bizet’s opera, an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Driven by a love of freedom, Carmen defies social conventions, asserts her autonomy, and navigates the complexity of power dynamics—timeless themes that remain deeply relevant. Gustavo Ramírez Sansano’s electrifying creation draws on the art of bullfighting, expressed through an elegant and refined aesthetic in stark black and white, where suspense, passion, and humor intertwine. Raw, unbridled energy! “In his reimagined version, Valencian Ramírez Sansano brings a more authentic Spanish flavour to it. It looks terrific, and was wonderfully danced.” Seeingdance, UK Post-Show Talk – Stay after the performance for a talk with the artists.
